Organoid models in immuno-oncology

"Second Summer school of the Institute Cancer and Immunology, a program of excellence led by internationally renowned speakers, practical workshops in Marseille's organoid platforms and time for exchanges."

The "Organoid models in immunology-oncology" Summer school (2023 edition) entirely in English, is designed for international PhD and Masters students in the fields of life sciences and medicine who are looking to deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of neuro-immuno-oncology research. The Summer school will present recent advances in tumor organoids, with a particular focus on immune and neuronal cell organoids involved in cancer, and their use as diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

Virtual part

  • Tutored seminars
  • Introduction to the "organoids challenge" in preparation for the workshops.

Face-to-face part

  • A general introductory module that will provide participants with an overview of the history and development of organoids, as well as the latest concepts in tumor-derived organoids and a comparison with other traditional models for cancer research.
  • A technical module that will present the basic principles and techniques for establishing 3D cell culture models, and introduce the different organoid models that will be developed in practical workshops.
  • A module of practical workshops on Marseille's scientific platforms.
  • A module on the nervous system, covering the development of neural organoids for the study of brain cancers and the contribution of the nervous system to cancer growth.
  • A module on the immune system presenting the development of immune organoids from tonsils and other lymphoid tissues, and organoid modeling of the immune tumor microenvironment.
  • A module that will present experimental tools and analytical methods for organoid research, including high-resolution 3D imaging, multi-omics and biomechanical approaches.
  • The Summer school will welcome 40 CIVIS students at the Marseille-Luminy Immunology Center.
  • Applicants must have some experience in oncology and immunology.
  • Each student must bring a laptop.
